SSC Commissioner Applications Open

The SSC is excited to announce that applications for commissioner positions on Science Students’ Council for the 2012/2013 year are now open, and we encourage anyone who wants to get involved or has never been a part of council to apply.

Commissioners are appointed to specific portfolios (e.g. charity, homecoming, etc.) and deal with specific tasks, events, and/or services within their portfolio. Commissioners sit on council and are non-voting members.

These positions are appointed by an interview process, and focus on running programming for science students. Positions include:



• Charity (x2)
• Student Events
• Editor of The Current
• Science Games (x2)
• Awards
• Homecoming (x2)
• Outreach
• Student Services
• Internet
• Secretary of Council
• Communications At-Large

Applications can be found on our website here: http://uwoscience.ca/?page_id=354 and are due Monday, March 26th at 4pm in the SSC office (Nat Sci 108). More detailed information about the specific roles and responsibilities of each position can be found in our constitution available on our documents page.

As well, the positions of Vice-President Communications and Stats/Actuarial Science Department Representative are still available. These are elected positions, and nomination forms are due Friday March 23rd at 4pm in the SSC office (Nat Sci 108). Elections will happen at the next SSC meeting, on Tuesday, March 27th.

Casino Royal Science Formal

Western’s SSC brings you the classiest of faculty formals!! It’s going to be a night full of food, friends, dancing, drinking and all around raging!

Doors at the beauty of a venue open at 6:30 and best get there early to enjoy the whole night!!!! For just $30, you get delicious food and one hell of a night.

Bring your friends, ask the cutie you sit beside in lecture, or come solo like a real James Bond/Bond Vixen

Early Bird Tickets are available on MONDAY, MARCH 12TH outside Taylor Library for $25.

Regular price tickets are $30 and available at the SSC Office (NatSci Room 108) and at Infosource everyday of the week. On the 19th and 21st, we’ll be located in front of Taylor Library again, so make sure you stop by and get your ticket.

Science Coffee House this thursday @ the Spoke

On Thursday March 15th come out to the spoke to support your local science performers and SSC’s charity for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society at the Science Coffee House!

There is a wide array of performers and even a special guest set from Dean Griffith’s Band!! Free Table Snacks will also be provided.

The nomination period for PA rep begins immediately and remains open until Friday March 16.

Phys/Pharm Social Committee “Candy Shoppe”

The Phys/Pharm Social Committee is hosting a Charity Valentine’s Day “Candy Shoppe” to spread some sugary love.

Treat your sweet tooth and/or sweet heart with some Valentine’s day candy from the 4980E Phys/Pharm Social Committee “candy shoppe”.

Come out on Tuesday, February 14, from 11AM-1PM in the Medical Sciences Building Atrium!

All proceeds go towards the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

USC Election Season Begins

Election season kicked off for the USC.

This is your opportunity to select candidates for USC President, SSC President and SSC Councilors.

Pay attention to all the election promotional material by candidates throughout campus over the next couple of weeks and be sure to check out their platform and how they propose to benefit student life at Western.

Voting takes place February 14th and 15th online.

Preliminary Final Exam Schedule Now LIVE!

The preliminary schedule for April exams has been released by the Office of the Registrar.

To view, log on to UWO Student Services.

Then go under the My Present tab and find the section where it says My Exams. Click the link there and it’ll send you to a page where you can browse for your classes and see their exam dates and times.

Charity dodgeball tournament

Science Students’ Council is hosting a charity dodgeball tournament on Saturday January 28th from 2:00pm to 5:30pm at the Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre Upstairs Gyms.

Details:

Teams of 7-10, however only 7 can play at a time

There must be a minimum of 3 girls on the court for each team

Each game will be a best of 5 series

Rules for the game are as defined by campus recreation (can be found online)

The cost is $10 per team member

The tournament structure is double knock-out style

It will run from 2:00pm to 5:30pm on Saturday January 28

Neon: glow in the dark dance

Want to relive O-Week? Jealous of all the upper years going to Charity Ball? No problem! The first year reps. of the SSC (Science Student Council) are throwing a dry, black light dance party at the Wave for all first year students!

When: January 27th @ 10:00pm
Where: The Wave in UCC

All proceeds fund our be positive campaign which benefits the leukemia and lymphoma society.

You can also drop by the council office for more information and to purchase a $5 wristband to enter the event. Wristbands are also available at the door for $7 and a $2 coat check will be provided.

Wear white! Highlighter, glow sticks, and much more will be given out.

This is exclusively a dry event. DJ Feddy is playing and the first 50 guests receive free glowstick glasses.
